Interview with Jewel @ Jewel Style: “If there is someone from whom you can learn, that’s from fashion bloggers”

Jewel is extremely lucky. She lives in one of the most beautiful places in Europe, the Island of Menorca, where the rest of us would love to go and spend some days.

Jewel (her blog is Jewel Style) is a reference in the personal fashion blog scene in Spain. She combines her three passions in her blog: photography, fashion and her love for Menorca. She takes the pictures of her outfits in different places of the Island. “I take all the pictures myself, with a tripod and a timer, it’s a little adventure!”

Q: Tell us about yourself: name, age (optional), where do you live, do you study or work, what do you do?
My name is Maria, I’m 31 and I live in a small village called Ferreries, it’s in the island of Menorca (Spain). I work at a bank.

Q: What is the name of your blog, what do you blog about, why did you start blogging?
My blog is Jewel Style, and I write about different aspects of the fashion world. Bloggers and celebrity outfits, new trends, handcrafted work, new collections, giveaways, special discounts for my readers and of my daily outfits.  This last section is updated daily, each day I show the the outfit I wore the day before. One of the attractions of my site is that I take the pictures in different places of the Island of Menorca, and three of my passions come together: fashion, photography and Menorca. I take all the pictures myself, with a tripod and a timer, it’s a little adventure!

Q: You publish pictures of yourself on your blog, you share your outfits, your personal style. Why do you do it? How do others (non-fashionistas) react to this?
I started years ago sharing pictures of my outfits in fashion forums, and some online friends encouraged me to start my own blog. On February 18th, 2008 I started this blogging adventure. Why do I share my outfits? Simply because I love fashion. Other people spend hours doing sports or playing video games, and I like to spend my free time on my own passion.

Some people don’t understand that I share pictures of my outfits, I accept that. But I’ve always thought that if you don’t harm other people, why should they judge you? “Live and let live” is my motto.

Q: Why do you visit other girls’ personal style blogs?
I do visit other girls blogs, if there is someone from whom you can learn, that’s from fashion bloggers. And not only that, you also build great friendships!

Q: When and how was your love for fashion born?
I’ve always love fashion, but in my own way. My style and my understanding of fashion has changed in the last 4/5 years. When I was 20, I was way more classic than what I am now with 31.

Q: What is a must have for this season? What trendy item will not be in your closet and why?
Studded booties or shoes will be in my closed for sure, also a long sleeve sailor tee, and a structured shoulder dress. I am clear I will wear socks with shoes or over-the-knee boots, these are two trends that horrified at.

Q: Please tell us three local brands you love (if these brands are not populair internationally, even better!)
If there is something we can be proud of here in Menorca is our footwear manufacturers. The most renown is Jaime Mascaró, both with his own models as with the super well known Pretty Ballerinas. I should also mention Pons Quintana and Patricia.

Q: Can you tell us three fashion stores in Menorca, a visitor should not miss?
My favorite stores are Teatriz (Ciutadella), Laya (Ciutadella) y Unika (Ferreries). Both in Teatriz and Unika you can find a great variety of the latest clothing and accessories collections at very affordable prices. Laya carries two of my favorite brands, Pepa Loves and Kling.

Entrevista con Jewel @ Jewel Style: “si de alguien se puede aprender y coger miles de ideas sobre cómo combinar una prenda o otra es de las bloggeras”

Llevaba tiempo queriendo conocer mejor a Jewel y esta entrevista en una oportunidad única para mí. Casi todas vosotras conoceréis ya a Jewel y su estilazo, tiene la suerte de vivir en un sitio espectacular, la isla de Menorca, qué envidia me da! A ver si encuentro pronto alguna excusa para hacerle una visita:)

Jewel es de las veteranas del estilo personal en España, y en su blog (Jewel Style) combina sus tres aficiones: la fotografía, la moda y su isla… “Uno de los atractivos de mi página es que las fotos de mis looks las hago en distintos rincones de mi isla, así que aúno mis tres grandes pasiones, la moda, la fotografía y la belleza de Menorca”.

P: Háblanos de ti: nombre, edad (opcional:), dónde vives, a qué te dedicas?
Me llamo María, tengo 31 años, vivo en un pueblecito llamado Ferreries de la isla de Menorca y trabajo en una entidad bancaria.

P: Cuál es tu blog, sobre qué blogueas, por qué empezaste a bloguear?
Mi blog se llama Jewel Style e intento abarcar una gran variedad de contenidos relacionados con el mundo de la moda. Estilismos de celebrities y bloggers, las nuevas tendencias, creaciones artesanales, nuevas colecciones, sorteos, descuentos exclusivos para las lectoras y mis estilismos diarios. Esta última sección la actualizo diariamente, es decir, que cada día enseño mi outfit del día anterior. Uno de los atractivos de mi página es que las fotos de mis looks las hago en distintos rincones de mi isla, así que aúno mis tres grandes pasiones, la moda, la fotografía y la belleza de Menorca. Como curiosidad comentar que las fotos me las hago yo misma, trípode en mano y autodisparador ¡¡es toda una aventura!!

Hace años colgaba mis estilismos en foros de moda, fueron varias foreras las que me animaron a crearme mi propia página y fue el 18 de febrero del 2008 cuando me aventuré en el mundo bloggero.

P: En tu blog publicas fotos tuyas y compartes tu estilo de vestir. Por qué empezaste a hacerlo? Qué crees que piensa la gente de este tipo de blogs de estilo personal y cómo te afecta?
Como he comentado antes colgaba asiduamente mis looks en foros de moda y después empecé a hacerlo en mi página ¿que por que lo hacía? simplemente porque la moda me divierte muchísmo, otras personas se pasaran horas haciendo deporte, leyendo o jugando a la consola, en cambio a mi esas horas de mi tiempo libre me gusta dedicarlas a mi pasión por este mundillo.

Entiendo perfectamente que haya gente que no entienda el porque de mostrar mis estilismos en público, es algo que comprendo y que acepto perfectamente. Aunque siempre he pensado que si con lo que uno hace no daña a los demás ¿que derecho tienen de juzgarte? ¡¡vive y deja vivir!! ese es mi lema.

P: ¿Visitas blogs de estilo personal? ¿Por qué lo haces?
Por supuesto que visito otros looks de estilismos, si de alguien se puede aprender y coger miles de ideas sobre como combinar una prenda o otra es de las bloggeras. Y más allá de los estilismos, también consigues hacer grandes amistades.

P: Cuándo y cómo nace esa aficion por la moda?
Desde siempre me ha gustado la moda aunque “a mi manera”, mi estilo y manera de entender la moda ha cambiado mucho en unos 4/5 años. Con 20 años era mucho más clásica de lo que soy ahora con 31.

P: Qué no puede faltar esta temporada en tu armario? Y qué no estará a pesar de ser tendencia?
Si hay algo que no va a faltar en mi vestidor de las nuevas tendencias van a ser unos botines o zapatos con tachuelas, una camiseta marinera de manga larga y un vestido con hombreras.

Tengo claro que no voy a sucumbir a la moda de los calcetines con zapatos y las botas por encima de las rodillas, son dos tendencias que me horrorizan.

P: Dinos 3 marcas de Menorca que te encantan
Si de algo podemos presumir en Menorca es de tener fabricantes de calzado de gran calidad, el más destacable es Jaime Mascaró tanto con los modelos de su firma como las archiconocidas Pretty Ballerinas. Reseñar también Pons Quintana y Patricia.

P: Dinos 3 tiendas de ropa, multimarca, que toda amante de la moda debería visitar cuando va a Menorca
Mis tiendas preferidas son Teatriz (Ciutadella), Laya (Ciutadella) y Unika (Ferreries). En Teatriz y Unika podéis encontrar una gran variedad de prendas y complementos muy actuales a precios asequibles. En Laya venden dos de mis firmas preferidas, Pepa Loves y Kling.
